Taiwan Visa Requirements

When I was in Singapore, Thailand and Hongkong last year, there was a full blast ad campaign by Taiwan in those countries to go visit Taiwan. I made a mental calculation that, yeah, count me in too, but most probably next year, which is this year. And since a project is now almost finished, I am up for traveling once again. Although there is an on-going dispute between the Philippines and Taiwan, I am still keen on a tour of Taiwan, probably this Summer. Philippine passport holders need a Visa to enter Taiwan though, so what a bummer, LOL. There are just so many requirements but basically it I guess boils down to show to the immigration officer that you are not going to work in Taiwan and will return to the Philippines after your planned trip. Here’s what I gathered so far:

NOTE: THIS OFFICE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO WITHHOLD THE REASON FOR THE DISAPPROVAL OF ANY VISA APPLICATION. (Note from MECO).

Prior to the Philippine-Taiwan dispute, Philippine passport holders with valid visas from the US, Canada, Japan, U.K., Schengen Convention countries, Australia or New Zealand, can just apply online to acquire their Taiwan Visa for free, provided they have not worked previously in Taiwan as a blue-collar worker. But since the aforementioned dispute, the privilege has been suspended and you have to apply for a visa in MECO.

If you don’t want to be bothered to apply personally for a visa, travel agencies are allowed to do it for you, you will just have provide them with the required documents enumerated above.
