A friend who is a law enforcing officer sent me this email file which he thinks is still and will be relevant in the coming Undas and Christmas season. Although i querried him that they should be doing something about it, he said they are, and one of those important aspect is to inform the public because as he said and i quote, “We can only do so much”, end of quote.
So there people, and please act accordingly. It is never a pain to be vigilant. Ok, here is basically what the email contains, pls. note the bulletin said March 2006, but you never know, they could have gone to other malls.
The Deadly Ipit Gang is composed of men, women and even adolescent children who equipped themselves with gas canisters which immobilizes their victims when used.
The Modus Operandi of this gang are that, they are usually composed of 2 or more males and 2 or more females and adolescent members. The gang leader, usually male, would conduct target acquisition operation to identify their would-be victim.
Favorite targets are individuals who are alone or unaccompanied with much to show like cellphones, jewelries, iPods and other valuable eletronic gadgets. Foreigners who are alone or is separated from their group is also a favorite target. One recent victim is with her family but she went alone to the comfort room.
On one signal, usually thru hand signal like raising a hand to the head and pointing to the would-be victim, the group would converge in the path of the would-be victim, cornering him both forward and aft.
Upon reaching an isolated corner or hallway or inside the comfort room, one of the gang member would spray a small amount of mist into the face of the victim, instantaneously the victim gets paralyzed, immobilized but still standing and conscious of his sorroundings.
A designated member will then rob the victim while the rest of them either serves as lookout or shields the perpetrators of the robbery from public view, to avoid public detection. At this juncture, the victim can see and feel everything but could not talk, move or shout for help.
For about a minute or two, the victim returns to his senses but the culprits have escaped into a waiting vehicle or inside the mall’s movie theater, or have changed their clothes or altered their appearance and have dispersed.
So, ingat lang when shopping and be vigilant. Remember, the mall guard’s can only do so much, it is not fool-proof to robbery especially in humongous malls like the Mega or the Mall of Asia, heck even in mid-sized malls like in this case, the Ayala Center. Also, you’ll never know what chemicals are those being sprayed, if you have a heart condition, it could be fatal. Better safe than sorry.
